Horticulture Award Recipients

Farmingdale State College's ornamental horticulture students were honored on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Farmingdale Horticulture Committee Annual Scholarship Reception for their hard work and excellence in the field of horticulture. Thirteen students received almost $19,000 worth of scholarship money in the names of influential organizations and leaders in the billion dollar 'green' industry.
Farmingdale State President Dr. W. Hubert Keen is pleased to announce that Melodie McMillen , an Eastport resident, is this year's recipient of the Robert "Josh" Gioscia Memorial Scholarship and the Syosset Garden Club Scholarship. Ms McMillen's outstanding GPA earned her the Award for Academic Excellence. In addition, she is the current President of the Farmingdale Horticulture Club. She will graduate with an AAS in Ornamental Horticulture.
Robert "Josh" Gioscia touched the lives of thousands green industry of professionals. As a founding member of the Farmingdale Horticulture Committee, he contributed greatly to Farmingdale State College and the horticulture industry.
The Farmingdale Horticulture Committee's mission is to benefit excellence in the Farmingdale State College horticulture curriculum, to provide scholarships for the best and brightest students, to advertise the program and to further the development of the Horticulture teaching gardens as the very finest in the Northeast, if not the country.
