Alumna Kate Kelly Art Exhibit at Heckscher Park

Farmingdale State College alumna Kate Kelly of Northport has been chosen to exhibit one of her artworks as part of the first Outdoor Art Exhibition Celebrating Diversity on Long Island .

Titled EMBRACING OUR DIFFERENCES, this is a project of the Suffolk County Center on the Holocaust, Diversity & Human Understanding, Inc.

Opening day will be Monday, September 24, 2007 at noon and will feature artists and musicians to celebrate diversity. It will run until the end of October at Heckscher Park in downtown Huntington Village .

Kate Kelly's piece, titled "Common Ground," is a digital art piece reproduced as a flat image 16' wide by 12' high. In the words of the artist, it "depicts silhouettes of children and their shadows (each in a different vivid color) walking towards each other from opposite directions. They look as if they are balancing themselves, arms outstretched, one foot in front of the other. They meet somewhere near the middle arms raised towards each other, hands meeting. Throughout the piece is the repeated phrase, "find common ground". Different colored birds fly around and colorful hand prints complete the piece."
