Mr. George P. LaRosa , Officer-in-Charge at Farmingdale State College, is pleased to announce that on November 16, Dr. Marie Hayden-Miles , Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Professor of Nursing received the Presidential Citation Award for her leadership and outstanding contributions to the nursing profession by the Nurses Association of the Counties of Long Island (NACLI).

Dr. Hayden-Miles has more than 25 years of service in progressive and increasingly complex roles in nursing administration, management and education. Her colleagues credit her with introducing to them an important new teaching approach known as Narrative Pedagogy. In December, Dr. Hayden-Miles will join with nursing faculty from Farmingdale as they present "From Dream to Reality: Revisioning the Nursing Curriculum One Day at a Time" in Auckland New Zealand at the First International Nursing Conference in Narrative Pedagogy.

Dr. Hayden-Miles, a resident of South Huntington , is the only Farmingdale State College member to receive the prestigious Presidential Citation Award. However, other colleagues have been honored in the past by NACLI. In 2003, Dr. Jonathan Gibralter , then president of the college, received the Community Award. Elizabeth Colgan , in 2002, received the Beacon Award. And, in 2000, Joanne Lapidus-Graham received the Ruth W. Harper Distinguished Service Award. In her acceptance remarks, Dr. Hayden-Miles pointed out that the achievements of Farmingdale's School of Health Sciences are the result of a collaborative and hard working group of professionals.

NACLI, founded in 1919, is part of District 14 of the New York State Nurses Association. It is a professional organization for RNs in Kings, Queens and Nassau counties. NACLI has been a leader in advancing the profession and promoting healthcare for all. NACLI's members are practitioners, educators, administrators, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
