Dr. Robert Saunders
Dr. Robert Saunders
Don't be duped by Borat!  Kazakhstan is a real country.  In fact, it's the ninth largest country in the world in terms of geography. Spend an informative and humorous hour with Dr. Robert A. Saunders of Farmingdale State College's Department of History, Economics & Politics as he discusses Sacha Baron Cohen's "mockumentary" Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan and dispels myths about Kazakhstan and its people.  This free lecture will be held on Tuesday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m. in Roosevelt Hall's Little Theatre.

Dr. Saunders conducted his dissertation research in Kazakhstan and has written a number of articles about Borat and Kazakhstan. He will answer questions about kumys (fermented mare's milk), kokpar (Central Asian polo which involves a headless lamb carcass), and bride-kidnapping, as well the vibrant, multi-cultural, tech-savvy nation that is modern Kazakhstan.
