Office 365 Outlook

Our current mail system version used by the campus, Microsoft Exchange, is reaching end of support. In lieu of continuing with the Exchange platform, we have opted to follow the path of many other SUNY schools and transition over to the cloud-based system, Office 365. The move to Office 365 will continue to function much the same way as you are accustomed to in addition to providing a more robust and feature rich mail system. While the transition process on desktop systems will be minimal, your mobile devices will need to be adjusted or reconfigured.

Email access using Microsoft Outlook

Once your account has been moved over to Office 365, there are a few simple steps that you will need to complete in order for your mail to operate correctly and more efficiently.

You will initially be presented with the following dialog.

Office 365 Message

It is safe to click the "Ok" button. Your Outlook application will quit and restart.

The final step is to change a preference called "Cached Exchange Mode". This allows for greater performance of the email application. Follow this link to enable this feature.


Email access using a Web Browser

With the migration to Office 365, a new updated interface is presented to you when accessing your mail via the web. This enhanced interface gives you access to the suite of tools that are offered.

You may choose this link, https://farmingdale.edu/office365 to log in and select Outlook from the the list of Office apps. Depending if you are on or off campus, you might be presented with the additional standard federated login screen.

Office 365 Apps

The default way your messages will appear or list in your Inbox might be different than what you are used to. Focused and Conversation Views are enabled by default. Please visit this link to guide you on changing those selections.

You can also access Outlook by going to https://mail.farmingdale.edu.  You will be redirected and asked to login again.


Email access using a Mobile Device or Tablet

Mobile devices will require some additional interaction in order for your mail to be working again. Some devices might just ask for a password, then work. Others will require the mail account to be removed and added again to the device.
