Instructions to Candidates

The moment you have been waiting for is finally here —your graduation and the Centennial Commencement Exercises of 2019. Please remember that there is only one evening, outdoor ceremony to be held at 7:00pm at the Nold Hall Track Complex on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Graduates must arrive at Nold Hall by 5:00pm for check-in, instructions, and line-up. This event will culminate with a fireworks display.

We want these days to be perfect for you and for your family. The following is a list of "MUSTS" for all potential diploma candidates.

File your "Intent to Graduate" form with the Registrar's Office before the close of business on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Failure to meet the deadline will result in your name being omitted from the Commencement Program, and prevent you from receiving your actual diploma. 

There will be several Senior Days in the Spring. Please watch this web page for the dates when they are finalized. You will be able to:

  • Check the spelling of your name for the Commencement Program.
  • ORDER YOUR CAPS AND GOWNS, HOODS, Tassels, College Ring, Diploma Case, etc.
  • Check the potential Latin Honors list to see whether you have qualified.
  • Get information about your Commencement video and photos
  • Purchase tickets to  THE FAREWELL BALL.
  • Join the Alumni Association.
  • Enjoy refreshments.
  • Make arrangements for any guests with disabilities.

Ticket Distribution:

Check the Spring Commencement homepage for updated ticket information. Eligible graduates with a valid RAM ID or driver's license will be entitled to 4 guest tickets. If you are unable to pick up your tickets during the designated times, then you must email commencement@farmingdale.edu to arrange alternate pickup.

Caps and Gowns:

Purchase your Commencement Caps, Gowns and Hoods as soon as possible to ensure you will have them for the ceremony. Graduate attire will be available for sale starting Monday, April 1, 2019. Attire must be purchased before May 13, 2019 (the last day of finals). Commencement attire is MANDATORY for the Ceremony. Please contact the bookstore so that you can begin to purchase your caps and gowns. Make sure to try them on immediately to make sure of proper fit and to please verify your bag includes the robe, hood, cap, and tassel.

Senior Portraits:

Schedule your Senior Portraits through Island Photo. Their photographers will be on campus for the Commencement Fair on April 24-25, 2019.


Additional Notes:

-The ceremony usually lasts about two hours but this is subject to change.

-Please let your guests know that no backpacks, coolers or umbrellas will be allowed into the graduation area. Please travel light; Guests are advised to leave jackets, purses etc. in the car. Additionally, all individuals may be subject to search prior to admittance.

-Guests needing special seating should arrive when the gates open for the ceremony. This area is limited to those needing special seating. However, up to one other not needing special seating may sit with that individual.-Please note the ceremony will be live streamed. Check back for a link on the College homepage the evening of the Ceremony.

-In case of inclement weather, ponchos will be distributed. No umbrellas will be allowed.                             

-Water and light snacks will be provided.

-Graduates and guests are advised to wear shoes appropriate for walking on uneven surfaces.
